Brother standard Gauge 4.5 mm Electronic Timing Belt - The timing belt on your Brother electronic knitting machine is vital to correct pattern selection. It is responsible for driving the pattern selectors so the correct needles are selected. The feeler then activates the selection mechanism in the beds to properly select which needles are to do the patterning. If you notice that your timing belt has a crimp in it or the holes are starting to become worn, it's time to replace the timing belt in your electronic machine.

 

Guidelines On How To Replace Your Timing Belt: Unscrew the cover pieces over the Left End of the machine (the middle section and the parts tray/clover assembly). LOOK first at the timing belt. There are oval holes in the timing belt and it MUST correspond to the notches in the wheel it travels around on BOTH ends of the machine. MAKE notes or take a photo. Move the timing belt so you can see the join at the back of the machine close to the middle of the machine. Look at the left side wheel through the holes in the wheel. Move the belt a little and you will see there are two screws holding a metal finger. Loosen these screws. The timing belt is now loosened.

 

Have the new timing belt ready with the end that has the longer hole in it nearest the machine. Without letting go of the ends, if you push the two ends of the old belt together, you can just get the button to come out of the loop. Carefully loop the new belt onto the button on the old belt. Keeping some tension on the belt, carefully pull the loose end of the old belt along to thread in the new timing belt. Make sure the ovals in the timing belt correspond to the notches in the wheels at BOTH ends of the machine. When the new timing belt is threaded, un loop the old belt and discard it. Pull the two ends together and slip the button into the loop. Go back to the left side wheel and while pushing the wheel to the left,  tighten the screws in the metal finger. Replace the top pieces.
