Creative Machine Knitting by Ruth Lee: This book is written for the 4.5 standard gauge machine, however, the information applies to all knitting machines. The very first books available to Americans when knitting machines were introduced to this country many years ago, assumed the American knitters were as adventurous and experienced as European knitters. Patterns were written so you could "do your own thing" and left out the details of how to do it. At long last, Creative Machine Knitting will fill in many of the gaps left by the earlier books, but without overlooking the excitement of experimentation. There is a section on knitting to fit, and an emphasis on some hand-manipulated techniques which are more time consuming but, the author feels, more satisfactory in the long run. Techniques covered include: intarsia, raglan sleeves, knitweave, sequins and beaded trimms, fair isle patterns, sideways knitting, shaped knitting, yokes, decorative decreasing, non-standard sizes, altering patterns, color and yarn notes and lots more. This is quite an interesting book. The styles are a little dated, however, the techniques still apply to current trends. If you are just past the beginner stage, you will definitely benefit from Creative Machine Knitting.
